The Comb-back Windsor Carver Chair (circa 1740) has a back that resembles a hair comb; hence its name.

The back is formed by seven to nine spindles rising out of the seat through the arm rail and capped by a steam-bent crest rail that usually has "ears" projecting beyond the back spindles with one, two or three hand-carved volutes.

This chair can either be made as a single bow or double bow carver chair.

The seat is usually the English shield or D-shape.
