The Double Bow-back Windsor (circa 1760) is also known as a Sack-back Chair.
This style of Windsor is defined by the two bow-like, steam-bent pieces forming the arm rail and crest rail.
The spindles of the double bow-back extend from the oval shaped seat, through the arm rail into the crest rail.
It is said the term Sack-back is from the practice of pulling a sack made from a popular material over the back of the chair and securing it with ribbons to the arm rail to protect the sitter from drafts in chilly rooms.
