The Fan-back Windsor Side Chair (circa 1750) usually has seven spindles
fanning out from the seat capped with a crest rail supported by decoratively
turned heavier side posts.
With no arm rail to support the back, these
chairs are sometimes braced with two spindles, like the Continuous Arm Carver Chair, but spread into a wider V-shape.
The seat is usually the American shield, but it can also be oval or D-shaped.
